"HARMONIZATION OF REQUIREMENTS FOR PHARMACOVIGILANCE IN CIS COUNTRIES"
An International Scientific Symposium with practical approaches, "Harmonization of Requirements for Pharmacovigilance in CIS Countries ", was held on January 26 in Minsk (Belarus). In accordance with the "Pharmsodruzestvo - 2006 " program, the symposium was led by the CIS Intergovernmental Commission on Standardization, Registration and Quality Assurance, the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Belarus, the Center for Examinations and Trials within the public health services, the Belarus Association of the International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (BAIPM) and a group of companies "Remedium”. Leading scientists and experts in this area from countries of the former USSR took part in this symposium. Substantial reports related to medical products brought a great audience of participants together. The Chairman of the CIS Intergovernmental Commission, Victor Dmitriev, noted that the symposium was the first action of the project "Pharmsodruzestvo - 2006 ". Despite developments and positive dynamics in the markets of the Commonwealth, there are still many problems that demand joint decisions and efforts. Ahead are many meetings, conferences, and seminars, directed not only to the discussion of pressing questions concerning the turnover of medical products, but also, most importantly, to decisions. Professor Yury Belousov, the head of the Faculty of Clinical Pharmacology of the Russian Academy of Medical Science drew the attention to the problems in pharmacovigilance and it’s supervision in Russia. Gennady Godovalnikov, the Director of the Center for Examination and Trials of Medicinal Products, MOH of Belarus informed the audience about the development of pharmaceutical vigilance in Belarus. Representatives from the State Pharmacological Center of MOH of Ukraine, Professors Vladimir Maltsev and Alexei Viktorov, talked about the conditions of pharmaceutical vigilance in Ukraine. At the symposium there were representatives of profile associations, such as AIPM from Russia, BAIPM from Belarus, EBA from Ukraine and ARPC from Kazakhstan. " Such meetings are necessary for all participants in the pharmaceutical market”, noted executive Director BAIPM, Alexei Sychev, “because, they promote the harmonization of legal bases, the development of joint decisions, and the exchange of experience. It is important to mantion that representatives from various businesses have taken part in this symposium: among them representatives of manufacturers, distributors, representatives of the pharmacy sector and also state regulatory bodies. The great interest was provoked by presentations given by preventatives from GSK, Pfizer, Sanofi-Aventis about their role in the creation of pharmacovigilance in CIS markets. During discussions, a common agreement was reached to organize a meeting such as this annually".
